Top Ten Tips For A Great Party

Having performed at hundreds of birthday parties and other celebrations I thought I would pass on a few tips on how to have a stress free, fun and enjoyable party. Many of these you may already know but are worth remembering!

1. Make the parents very clear about the start time for the party. You'll always get latecomers, so it's best to have my show start twenty minutes after the time you have told guests to arrive. I normally perform at two or three parties a day on weekends so it's not possible for me to delay the start time that we have agreed in advance as it will make me late for my next booking.

2. Have the show before the food, the children will be eager to see the show.

Having my show first then leaves you time afterwards for any other things you may be planning such as food, cake, party games, bouncy castle etc.

3. If you are going to have balloons don't over inflate them. Only use them for wall decorations or putting outside the entrance to let guests know where to go. Don't make the mistake of putting them on the floor for the children to play with as they will of course explode within minutes. Some children (and adults) can find it very upsetting and it's not uncommon for some of your guests to have a fear/phobia to balloons. Having small explosions going off during the show is also very distracting for the children.

4. If parents are staying encourage them to sit with the children and join in the fun. Or if they do want to chat have a separate room for them. Don't allow them to chat at the back of the hall or even worse be chatting on mobile phones! The noise is distracting for the children and it becomes a shouting match especially in venues with poor acoustics.

5. As with balloons do not give the children any other distractions during the show. Popcorn, party poppers, streamers, whistles, hats, candy floss, ice creams etc, keep them until afterwards. The Ben Bamboozle show is full of audience interaction so the children need to be able to clap and cheer and join in!

6. Having seen many parents getting stressed whilst organising the food and arranging the tables etc, keep calm, relax and plan in advance.

Cardboard happy meal style food boxes can be a very good idea as you can pre-prepare them and it's just a case of handing them out when it's food time. Just search for party food boxes on eBay or Amazon, they make in them in all sorts of child friendly designs.

Also remember that you have the time whilst I am performing my show to be sorting out the food. don't be tempted to put it out before as the children will just graze on it and when it comes to the food time wont be hungry!

7. If you are having a bouncy castle switch it off whilst the show is on. It can go back on as soon as the show has finished.

8. A follow on from tip 7, if you are having a face painter, caricaturist, candy floss, photo booth or anything else, save it until after the show. The more distractions you remove the more the children will remain seated to watch and enjoy the show.

9. Don't invite too many children! This is more for your sake than mine! I'm of course happy to perform for any size of audience (the more the merrier), but bear in mind you are responsible for looking after the children. I find children have a core group of friends and it'd best to invite the ones they are closest to.

If you have any other questions why not give me a call, text, WhatsApp or an email, I'm a friendly chap!
